Hyde Park dates to 1887 and was annexed to Los Angeles in 1923. It stretches from the Crenshaw corridor across to Van Ness and down to Florence, taking in Park Mesa Heights and the streets around 54th, Slauson and Crenshaw.
This is home for me in the most literal sense — I went to 54th Street Elementary, and The Clark on 54th sits on the corner where my mother did hair for thirty years. The K Line's Hyde Park station at Crenshaw and Slauson opened the neighborhood to the rest of the city.
